Golf Tournament

  • Linda says that we should start planning for the 2020 tournament now (as opposed to August 15).
  • The suggestion was made that we recruit Linda again for organizing this project.
    • The assembled club agreed.
    • Bill will ask Linda if she would be willing to organize the tournament again this year.
  • Tournament is usually held the middle weekend in September.

Succession/Executive Planning

  • Next years executive are as follows:
    • Secretary: Gord McNaughton
    • Youth: Brenda McNaughton
    • Treasurer: Gil Contant
    • Membership:  John Tyler/Jenna Dickson
    • President: Unfilled
    • Foundation: Wayne Arnold/Dave Snider
  • We should have announced to Rotary by the end of December who would be filling our executive roles.
  • This first reading was accepted.

Financial Update

  • Gil provided a synopsis of the club’s finances for the first 6 months.
  • The summation of the report is that our finances are “quite healthy”.
Motion by Gil Contant to accept the financial report as presented.
Seconded by Chris Wade.
The motion was passed.

Polio and Foundation

  • As addressed within the Financial Report, we have met our commitments.

Allocation/Disbursement of Raised Funds

  • The club receives many requests for funding. Some recent examples include:
    • Gentle Shepherd Church for the Soap Box Derby.
    • Elliot Lake Palliative Care.
    • Alzheimer’s Society.
    • Rotary Exchange Program for Music.
    • Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA)
    • Various individuals seeking funding for medical supports.
    • The Exceptional Puppeteers.
    • Head start Business Camp.
  • The club needs to consider how they wish to spend these funds over the next six months.

PR and Marketing

  • This will be sorted over the next week.

  • We have several interested persons who have expressed an interest in joining Rotary (and it would be good to entice more).
  • There should be a focus on programming over the next 6 months so that prospective members can come and get a taste of Rotary and our club.
  • The suggestion was made that we set aside a programming night to inviting prospective members to. The presentation that night could be an introduction to Rotary.

  • January 28th: Jenna - Public Health.
  • February 4th: Shawn – Head Start Business Camp.
  • February 11th: Adventures in Citizenship review of candidates.
  • February 18th: Club Assembly.
  • March 3rd: Prospective members/Rotary 101 (tentative).
  • May 12th: Prospective Outbound Students and Parents night (tentative).

  • Francois has moved in with his third host Family (Waites).
    • Has been entered in the E.L. ice fishing derby.
  • Information and applications have been sent to students who expressed an interest in participating in Adventures in Citizenship.
    • None of students have returned applications or essays yet.
    • February 10th is the deadline for the students to return these.
  • Hope to be strategizing with the principals of both high schools on ways to find new outbound students for the 2021/2022 student exchange period.
  • The plan is to be doing some searching before the summer break then invite the students and their parents to a Youth Exchange information night (May 12th?).
  • We will not be hosting an inbound student for the upcoming exchange year (2020/2021).
Note to all Rotarians, Mount Dufour Ski Hill will be hosting a Grand Opening Ceremony for the new terrain park at 1 pm on Saturday January 25th at the ski hill. It would be great if a few Rotarians were present for this event as we were a supporter of this project.
