The Rotary Club of Elliot Lake Meeting
Tuesday, April, 5th, 2022 @ 7:00p.m.
Attendance: President Brenda, Gil, Wayne, John T., Chris, Jenna and Jane
1) Call to order.  President Brenda, acknowledged that we are in the Robinson -Huron Treaty Territory and that the land on which we are gathered is the traditional territory of the Anishnaabeg and Metis people.
2) Listened to the National Anthem.
3) Toasts were made to the Queen and Canada.
4) Welcomed Rotarians.
5) Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW)
Rotarian Gil, spoke about Club Director of Community Service, Mr. Richard Denton, from the Rotary Club of Sudbury, who has been lobbying other clubs in our District to support this Treaty.  Rotarian Wayne put forth a motion to endorse this Treaty and the motion was passed. On behalf of the club, President Elect Shawn will cast our vote.
6)Rotary Youth Leadership Awards
It is being held virtually on May 27th-29th/2022.  Two students per Club from grades 9-12 can participate.  The Club participant fee is $100.00 and the deadline to participate is April 22nd,/22. The outcome of the discussion is that an email will be sent to both ELSS and VFJ and Club members to see if there is any interest from students to participate.
7) Serve to Change Lives with PEI Potatoes
Rotarian Wayne gave us an update.  A special thank you to Rotarians, Wayne, Kim, Gord, Brenda, Dr. Bob and Hamish for delivering 2,500 lbs of potatoes to the following organizations:  Elliot Lake Emergency Food Bank; Club 90; Maplegate Women's Shelter/Larry's Place Men's Shelter; Northshore Metis Council; Sagamok First Nations Food Bank; and the Salvation Army.
Rotarian Wayne also spoke with Rotarian Bob McAlister from Blind River whose club gave out 1,500 lbs of potatoes.  Thank you to all who participated in this event!
8) The Club is asking for Volunteers!
Rotarian Wayne has volunteered to be Secretary for the May 3rd and May 17th meetings.  The Club is also looking for Volunteers for next year's Executives in these positions: Secretary, Foundation, Membership, Next Generation, and Public Relations.  Anyone interested please contact President Brenda or President Elect Shawn.
9) Bingo Dates
We have the following Volunteers for April 22nd Bingo: Brenda, Wayne, Chris, and Jenna.
We still need Volunteers for the May 27th Bingo.
10) Community Futures Rural Relief and Recovery Community Economic Development
Treasurer Gil, informed us that our Club was successful in receiving the $1000.00 grant.  It had to be spent before March 31st/2022.  
A purchase of a laptop computer, bluetooth speakers, wireless mouse and a carrying case will have a multi-use in support of future hybrid meetings at Heritage Hall and future guest speakers.
11) Strategic Planning Group from Rotary District 7010: In-person Strategic Planning Night set for Tues. June 21st/22 @6:00 p.m.
There was discussion around the few numbers of club members that will attend at this point and whether to proceed with the meeting.
One of the challenges is having enough notice to the Rotarians who will be travelling here to conduct the meeting, if cancelling and also numbers for the caterer.
With the increased numbers of Covid still in our community and this new variant of omicron; it was asked of President Brenda to email Mr. Edmonds to let him know, we might not have firm numbers for the meeting of June 21st, until two weeks prior to the meeting.
12) North Shore Drag Races
The Drag Races will be held on July 15th, 16th, and 17th.  Please save the dates.  It was mentioned we will need at least 16 Volunteers.
13) The Rotary Red Briffett Memorial Golf Tournament
Rotarian Chris gave us an update and the date is set for Sat. Sept. 17th/22.
A letter will be printed up so we can begin distributing and begin trying to lobby for sponsors by the end of this month.
14) For the Good of Rotary
President Brenda mentioned about our Trail and Watershed Clean-up which should be done between April 23rd - July 4th.  We will need two dates, one for highway clean-up and one for the watershed clean-up.
Sunday, May 1st was tentatively scheduled for highway clean-up at either 12 noon or 1:00 p.m.  Volunteers scheduled so far are: Chris, Jenna and Jane.
15) Happy Dollars, Birthdays, Anniversaries and Fines
*Happy Birthday to Gord
*John T. had a great trip to Europe over the March Break with his son and fellow Rotarian Shawn and ELSS.  Unfortunately, he had Covid upon his return but is feeling much better!
*President Brenda is taking a Food Handling course!
*Treasurer Gil mentioned Canada's Read Contest and the winner was called, "Five Little Indians", which he recommended we read.
*Jenna has adopted a little puppy from a rescue group and we were able to meet him!
*Jane has started a new job!
